Cooking and camping go hand in hand. When we are in nature we often find that we have extra time to cook a lovely meal. Some of us prefer backpacking meals that just need water added. I tested a few of these camping meals from Peak, Backpacker’s Pantry, Mountain House, and Good-to-go. In this video Cory and I rate these meals from best to worst.

I camp and hike in and around the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. I also guide Boundary Waters Retreats! In the Superior National Forest, in Northern Minnesota. And anywhere else I can venture to! I love sharing the journey with you all.

Ha ha nice video I prefer to cook my meals as I do at home much easier on the digestive system in the back country. They work well in a last case scenario or if you are crunched for time. Food dehydrators work great 👍
Definitely truth here. If possible, it’s wonderful to bring “real” food camping.
I really don’t enjoy cooking, so this is similar to how I cook at home. Maybe I’ll find joy in cooking and bring exciting meals camping some day. 🤷♀️
@Jodi Middendorf for sure!
Great info Jodi thanks. I guess for convenience and easy to use dried food has its advantages.
PS Colt was licking his lips and looked hungry 😁
Mountain House Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese is the best. I almost ate that every day at the BW last week.
Okay I’ll try that one! I just bought a few for my next trip, but next time.
Oh boy. There are so many other newer brands that are knocking it our of park! Pinnacle Foods, Packit Gourmet, Trailtopia, Stowaway Gormet, Fernley Food Company, Next Mile meals, Gastro Gnome. Amazing what they are making 🙂
Next video! 😉
Chili beef mac is best for me! And I’m not even a mac person. I have yet to find another meal that I actually really like. As far as freeze dried… Plus they’re not cheap.
What I find with these meals is the expense. For 2 of us each night is about 20 plus dollars. Most of the time I just put together meals like chicken and marsala sauce over rice, all in my local grocery among many others.
I agree with the calories – it seems that it takes 2 servings for correct caloric intake.
What I have found is that most dehydrated meals taste better and reconstitute better the longer you let them sit. Gives it time to cool off a little and the flavors blend. Just my opinion.
Although pricey, the weight and convenience makes it worth it.
Best wishes!
Stir them up when adding water and after it’s sat for time. Maybe let some cook longer. MH Biscuits and Gravy is tough.
MH Pad Tai and Peak Curry chicken are both very good. Thanks
